A big welcome to Connie, the new Candace House Victim Support Worker!

Hello, I am Connie. I’m an Annishinabe Ikwe, raised in Winnipeg. My family’s home community is Sagkeeng First Nation, Manitoba. I am a single mother to two wonderful daughters, Ainsley who is 19 and Nina who is 7. I am the eldest child of three (2 siblings).

I have a bachelor in Social Work and plan on pursuing my Masters in September 2023. I’ve worked in various capacities in social services and have always enjoyed working with people from diverse backgrounds. I bring with me both personal and professional experience as an Indigeous woman. I hope to use my skills to help others, while always humbly learning from each interaction.

I love music and still plan on learning to play some kind of instrument! Gardening is something I’ve been teaching myself for the past few years and I hope to get good enough at it to start some canning. Not there yet though, maybe next year (which is what I’ve said the past few years).

I am very happy to join The Candace House Team and I really look forward to what lies ahead. So far, the feeling has been very natural and I feel very blessed to be here. Thank you so much for welcoming me so kindly!

Connie
